MISSION

The Green Lodge is a project space aiming to reinvent the concept of the “white cube” gallery. Focused on experimental curation and artistic cooperation, the Green Lodge holds the well-being of artists and collaborators at the core of its mission. The space supports emerging and mid-career artists and curators in the development of ambitious and off-center projects that may not find a home elsewhere. The Green Lodge is not merely a place, but a confluence of spirits.

ABOUT

The Green Lodge was built during the 2020 COVID lockdown by father and son Kurt and Owen Barensfeld, off the back of Kurt Barensfeld’s cabinet shop. Originally planned as a showroom and hand-tool carpentry space (hence the many windows), its true destiny quickly became clear.

In the early Fall of 2022, sitting atop the roof of the space, Owen Barensfeld decided to turn it into a gallery. Taking its name from the iconic black and white lodges of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s Twin Peaks, the Green Lodge was born. It opened in November of 2022 with a solo show of Owen’s work (to work out the kinks, and also, why not?) and has been transporting its guests to unfamiliar and strange dimensions ever since.

Over time the Green Lodge, with the help of Darian Longmire, Emily Nola, Kurt and Teresa Barensfeld, and several other artists and friends, evolved into an experimental and collaborative curatorial space where artists come together, and spectacular things they didn’t think possible occur.
